In many ways, fashion is like a hobby for me. I’ve watched people wear the same stuff and thought, “I want to do that.”
Today’s world’s attitude toward fashion is “if it is not broke, don’t fix it.” I get that this attitude is actually a good one. I also get that “fixing” things is not a good thing in many ways.
So when it comes to the fashion industry, I don’t think of it as a business. Fashion is not about making a lot of money. Fashion is not a good investment. No business is a good investment.
If you want to know what makes a successful fashion entrepreneur, I’d say, that someone who has a work ethic. Someone who can work with other people. Someone who has an open mind. And someone who can change to fit the times.
Another thing I admire about some fashion designers is that they have the discipline to go into their own business and make their own rules, even if they’re personal life or just fashion. “Why would I follow the rules of other people?” asks a person who has a work ethic. “The way I see it, I have my own set of rules.” And that’s great.
The work ethic is what makes a good fashion designer. People who are disciplined enough to do what they love to do and do not follow someone else’s rules. That’s why they’re great.
I watch people from all walks of life do the same thing. I see the same outfit and want to do it. When I am asked what I like about fashion, I answer, “I like watching people.” Like when someone makes you want to start something and that excitement fuels them to follow through.
Sometimes, people don’t want to follow because they are not passionate about it. They don’t even care what the fashion says or what people think about it. But at the same time, they don’t want to work with those who really do care about what they are doing.
As a designer, I feel passionate about every outfit I put on. I believe that every person I work with gives 110% of themselves. They are there for the same reason I’m there: to make a great fashion creation.
